Ambire Governance Proposal: Remove the NFT Requirement for Ambire Rewards
We propose removing the NFT minting requirement as a prerequisite for joining Ambire Rewards. Characters remain as offchain avatars you pick at onboarding, and any NFTs already minted stay as collectibles. This change reduces friction and makes more users eligible to be active.
This governance proposal aims to determine whether to remove the NFT minting requirement for participation in Ambire Rewards.
The character you choose will remain as your profile picture in the Rewards dashboard, but new participants won’t need to mint an NFT to start earning.
Proposal overview
We propose removing the onchain NFT mint as a prerequisite for participating in Ambire Rewards. This action aims to reduce friction and simplify onboarding to the program.
Here is how this change will affect participants:
- New and existing users who haven’t minted on Ethereum won’t need to mint an NFT to accrue rewards.
- The current characters remain as a profile picture (offchain) that users can pick during onboarding.
- Existing NFT mints will remain collectibles for those who minted them, but they will no longer be required for participation.
The question is: Should Ambire remove the NFT mint as a requirement to participate in Ambire Rewards?
Voting options
- Yes - Remove the NFT
- No - Keep the NFT
Applicability & timing
If the vote passes with “Yes,” this change will take effect during the current Rewards Season 1, which has been recently extended to December 15, 2025.
Motivation
This governance proposal aims to:
- Simplify onboarding: Many users don’t understand why an NFT is required to participate. Removing it makes the program simpler and clearer.
- Remove barriers to entry: Minting (especially on Ethereum) can be costly due to gas spikes. Eliminating this requirement lowers the friction for newcomers.
- Include active users who didn’t mint: Users who have been actively using Ambire but skipped the NFT step become eligible for rewards for the current season.
- Fairer $WALLET distribution: Broader, simpler eligibility criteria lead to more inclusive participation and a fairer distribution of rewards across users.
Voting eligibility
- Hold $WALLET or $stkWALLET on Ethereum before the snapshot (October 7, 2025, at 14:00 UTC).
- Please note that the voting power of $WALLET tokens is half (0.5 points) that of $stkWALLET tokens.
- Any token changes after the snapshot will not affect the voting power. For example, staking your $WALLET tokens after the snapshot will not double their voting power.
Timeline
- Vote start: The voting period begins on October 7, 2025, at 14:00 UTC
- Vote end: The voting period closes on October 12, 2025, at 14:00 UTC
