What’s Next for the Ambire Mobile App?

The Ambire mobile app is unlisted from app stores - but this isn’t the end. We’re building a better unified V2 experience across extension and mobile.

Ambire Wallet app is being temporarilyunlisted from the Google Play Store and the App Store

Ambire always believed that true self-custody means empowering users with a complete experience across platforms, especially on desktop and mobile. Let’s look at the evolution of Ambire since the beginning.

Brief history of Ambire

We initially launched a web based smart wallet in late 2021 and later introduced a mobile wallet in 2023. We now refer to them as Ambire V1 products.

However, demand from our users and from the ecosystem as a whole meant that over the past 2 years, we focused on building the natural evolution of our wallet infrastructure - Ambire V2, a powerful browser extension designed to elevate the desktop experience and replace the web wallet completely.

While building V2, we reimagined the wallet from the ground up. Our own findings, as well as developments in the space as a whole, like the recent Pectra upgrade allowing smarter EOAs, allowed us to expand our offering from simply smart accounts to much more.

This, however, also means that Ambire V1 (web and mobile) and Ambire V2 (browser extension) are currently incompatible. For example, accounts created in the browser extension cannot be imported into the mobile wallet app and vice versa.

Current status of mobile apps

We’ve made the strategic decision to temporarily unlist the Ambire mobile app from the iOS App Store and Google Play Store. This is done simply to avoid confusion during a transition period for the mobile app.

Imagine the following scenario: A new user installs the Ambire browser extension and sets up accounts. Later, they attempt to import their extension accounts into the mobile app but find this functionality unsupported, leading to confusion and frustration.

If you are an Ambire mobile app user, don’t worry - the mobile wallet continues functioning as intended and is currently in support mode only. We do recommend moving to V2 in the long run as they are superior in terms of features. Additionally, V1 accounts may not be supported indefinitely.

Furthermore, you can earn rewards using the browser extension with V2 smart accounts and/or smarter EOAs, while V1 accounts do not qualify for rewards as they aren’t compatible with the extension.

What’s next?

Our users so far are loving the extension, and we will keep pushing out features until we feel it’s just right. We regularly conduct user interviews to make sure we stay on track with what users actually want to see in the extension and to further improve the UX.

Meanwhile, we have already started planning the next phase: upgrading the mobile app to Ambire V2. This will take time, tho, which is why we decided to hide the apps for the time being.

The end game is having a perfect combo and synced accounts on both the browser extension and mobile app.
